Edwin Starr boleh dikatakan antara personaliti paling berpengaruh melalui lagu "War (What Is It Good For?)" yang dinyanyikan beliau bagi memprotes perang Vietnam pada tahun 1970.. Starr telah berjaya mengangkat martabat genre "Soul" sehingga ke puncak apabila lagu "War" menjadi lagu paling laris di awal penerbitannya.. Malah kini, lagu ini tetap berkumandang setiap kali menyentuh isu perang.. Penulis buat pertama kali mendengar lagu ini dalam filem "Rush Hour" yang dibintangi oleh Jackie Chan..
